"Great selection, friendly and helpful staff."
Friendly staff, clean and wide variety of equipment to use. The place could use an update on esthetics and fixing broken equipment. Overall great value.
A very nice gym. For local residents only. With modern equipment. Nautilus machines, treadmills and stair climbers. And of course a plethora of free weights. Opens at 4:00 a.m. on weekdays. 5:00 a.m. on weekends. It has never been even slightly crowded at 5:00 a.m. . There's about 20 people in the entire gym. However at 6:00 and it starts to get busier. The parking is right out front and free during the early morning hours. I think you have to bring your own towel. People are accommodating a nice. And plus there's a full sauna however I haven't used it.
Probably the best gym to go to in Hilo if ya wanna lift
If you are a serious weightlifter/bodybuilder, I HIGHLY recommend! This is NOT for the person who wants everything “just so” or for the person who is more concerned about the age of the equipment and the “commercial gym environment”. I chose to go to this gym while I’m on vacation based on other reviews. I wasn’t disappointed! The equipment selection is beyond awesome, you won’t find some of the equipment at your more upscale gyms. Everything is well worn and used, but very clean. No dust bunnies in the corners or along the walls. That says a lot! Bottom line.....go if you want to have a great selection of unique equipment you can’t find elsewhere, and you care more about your workout than you do about having a spa like environment.
This gym needs many repairs. The building is very run down and the atmosphere is stale. Mens locker rooms are the worst with jacked up shower valves, families of roaches living behind the cracked tiles, and employees who sometimes take breaks in the locker room. What this town needs is a 24hour gym.
Great gym, but could and should do much better dealing with covid-19. Masks are required for entry but are optional once inside. Some people wear them but many don't. It seems dangerously casual. Management should set an expectation that masks will be worn at all times except while doing a set or cardio. It seems like an outbreak hotspot waiting to happen
This place is the real deal, definitely a bodybuilder-centric gym very old school tons of good equipment this is the place you want to go to when you're traveling it does everything you want it to do it doesn't have tons of you know crazy different cardio machines but every free weight body building option you could ever want there's even a studio space to do yoga and stretching and anything else you need to do in there there are showers also and you can buy a weak membership for around 40 bucks. Totally worth it if you're visiting the east side of the island.
I've been here with my bro back in 21 and I enjoyed it very much.
I been going to Spencer's for YEARS! Opening at 3am Is awesome. Found out it's under new management and hours will be changing, not to happy about that as majority of us go & get our work out done early before work. After all these years we get this SAD news. It may finally come to a decision of finding another gym that can accommodate the early birds. This gym has a lot to offer for a great work out but their is a lot of repairs that needs to be made around the gym itself.
Needs a bunch of updating, its not a pretty place, but its very affordable and has a sauna. People manning the desk are always kind, and they have fairly flexible hours to fit in a workout whenever you want to. Its a nice place to go that's not pretentious.
